So, who is Protoman, anyway?
And you want to know. You think I know? I've spent half my
life trying to figure that out!! And you want me to tell
you?
Actually, you want some real information? Okay. Dr. Light is a scientist
and robotics expert in the year 200X. He, with the help of his colleague,
Dr. Wily, build a small humaniod robot. It is unlike any robot ever made
before. Because of this, Dr. Light decides to name it Protoman. Protoman
is so incredibly human-like, that one could easily mistake him for being a
human. Protoman seems an unworthy name, so Dr. Light changes it to Break
Man (but no one knows!). He is a welder bot, so he can change his arm from
his elbow down into a welding cannon, and has a shield to protect he and
his creator from flying debris. Dr. Light and Protoman have a jolly good
time until one day. Now, be alert, this is where all the confusion comes
in.
Dr. Light is working on one of his projects when something goes mega
wrong. (ha ha, couldn't resist!) Protoman rushes to shield his creator
from the explosion. When the dust clears, Protoman is no longer there. Was
he teleported to another land? Was he transported into the future? Was he
turned invisible? (not!) I, personally, think he got teleported into the
future. One minute, he was shielding his creator from the biggest blast
he'd ever seen, the next, stranded somewhere, years later. He manages to
work his way back to the lab. Mandi suggests he was trapped by Dr. Wily
and turned into a biomechaniod (bioriod; living machine). I guess I'll go
with that.
GAMES:

- Mega Man 3-- This is where he returns. You fight him in Shadow Man,
Magnet Man, and Hard Man's levels. In Gemini Man's (go! go!) he
mysteriously appears and lets you into Gemini Man's secret cavern. (so you
can kill him!! BOO!!) After the final battle, he finally realizes what
gives and saves your butt. And thus brothers are happy and return to Dr.
Light's lab. Just kind of a little shock, there. "Hey, you! Yeah you! You
have a long-lost brother!! Yeah! Really!"

- Mega Man 4-- He rescues Kalinka from Dr. Wily's captivity, so Dr.
Cossack, her father, has no reason to fight Mega Man. ("You betray me,
Protoman! I'm gonna break you, Mega Man!!") Oh yeah, Protoman
forgot to whistle in this one. Maybe there was no time. Maybe he was shy
around Kalinka, who looked real cute to him.

- Mega Man 5-- Dr. Wily gets all mad that Protoman betrayed him,
(wouldn't you be if he betrayed you?) so he makes a robot, Dark Man, to
frame him. But during the battle with Dark Man, Protoman pops in and blows
Dark Man's cover. He then gives you an energy can (Dark Man can do some
real damage) and leaves. I remember the first time I was in that place. I
was playing with my friend, Tom. I wasn't very happy Protoman
turning evil. Then Tom yells, "Hey!! The whistle sounds fake!!"
Wow, good one, Tom. As if I couldn't hear that for myself. (Tom, by the
way, likes Bass just as much as I like Protoman.)

- Mega Man 6-- This, I think, was the most boring game. All he does is
give you the energy equalizer!! Jeez!

- Mega Man 7-- I really, really don't like it. Why, oh why, does he have
to play "games" with Mega Man and confuse the public? Anyway, his first
visit is in Cloud Man's level. He says, "It's been a while, Mega Man. Here
is some information. Your weapons can be used to discover secret areas.
Try using the flame weapon in the woods." I've got that memorized. If he
knew Beat was stuck up there, then why didn't he just get him down
himself? I mean, really! It's not like he's short of firepower or
something. The next visit: Turbo Man's stage. He asks if you have all of
the R-U-S-H circuit plates. If you don't he doesn't get mad for your
incompetence, though. He just encourages you to get them. Of course, we
all know why. So he can tell you you can't slide. Third visit: In Shade
Man's stage, if you take the bottom rout, (beat the innermost pumpkin) go
to the right, (behind the Joe) you will find a real fun battle. This is
actually my favorite battle in the history of Mega Man, besides maybe
fighting Vile at the end of the first level of Mega Man X. Hee hee. I've
found that Rush Suit tends to work the best. A funny thing I like to do:
After you beat him, when he's sort of standing there, messing up, shoot
the Power Arm at him. It can't hit him, since he's not a target anymore,
so it just circles around him. It'll keep doing this well into the
conversation with you. It's real funny, I promise. ("Now, don't make any
sudden moves, Protoman, I've got you covered!!") After this, as we all
know, he gives you his protoshield. It's real fun, but I wish you could
use it in conjunction with Master weapons.
- Mega Man 8-- We can only dream.

- Game Boy Mega Mans 1-5-- I have never played these, but I hear he pops
in like in Mega Man 6 to give you energy and junk, sorta like Eddie.
- Mega Man Soccer-- I have to admit, he looks real bad here. I like to
think that he just wanted to have some fun.
- Mega Man X Series-- A final note: I'm sure he has some connection in
Mega Man X besides dying. (Bad girl, Mandi! You made me cry!) I mean, he's
such an interesting character that he has to do something! Maybe
he's Zero. Maybe he's Sigma. Maybe he's Vile. Maybe he's... he's... Dr.
Cain!
And, always remember,
