Heya (typical greeting). MercuryNet is an IRC network composed of several different servers all linked together for one purpose: to allow people to converse via IRC. If you haven't experienced (the addicting powers of) IRC yet, we would love to be the first network to introduce you to it (and its addicting powers ;p). If you're a veteran, we invite you to join us too; new people, new channels, things we are sure you won't find anywhere else :), and new experiences. We even have a theme song, Purple Motion's UnreaL ][ (S3M; 627k). MercuryNet was intended for anyone and everyone.

To ensure the safety of the network and its users as well as enhance the experience, we've entrusted several people with extra powers to keep the network running (don't worry, we know how to keep them in line ;p). We also sport a recent version of the ever-so-popular Services found on Espernet and on various other nets, but we've made our own enhancements to it.

Latest News [06/24/98]: Please welcome xBig_D into the ranks of the administration as an operator. We expect that he will serve us well *ahem* contribute significantly to the MercuryNet environment. :p

MercuryNet began on 05/14/98 with pentagulia.mercury.net as its only server. MercuryNet's official founding day, complete with a webpage, three servers, and Services, was 06/23/98.
