The Official
April Fool's Joke FAQ

Lady Wolfette and I have been working on the Speed Homepage for quite a while now. It's on GeoCities, and it's designed by me and illustrated by her. (She seems rather good at drawing Speed.) It's the Protoman 6.7 Frameset method, not the proposed Java B1 Frameset, which was abandoned a while ago, in case you didn't know.

The Speed Homepage is the same GeoCities account as the FanFic account for Speed's page. My FanFic, when it was transferred to Speed's page, was not transferred to his directory. Instead, I created my GeoCities account and used it to hold the FanFic. With my 1.2 megs of space left, I designed a so-called "Page of the Future." I needed a theme, and Lady Wolfette's gorgeous Speed drawing appeared at the key time. I transparented with great care (three hours, twice the normal clock time for a < 300 x 300 image), and uploaded it as the finishing touch to the base Speed Homepage.

It featured many new things, such as the Multi-Colored Ads Backgrounds and the Plug 'n Play Mega Man Jukebox. After creating the base page, I decided to keep the page a secret from Speed until it was "completed," or presentable. Then Speed would take the 1.2 MB, move in using a Protoman-built page and the Mega Man Jukebox, while taking over complete responsibility for FanFic (including that which was in the directory).

Yesterday, I informed Speed of the page and instructed him to move into it and change the password. He did, and as he was doing this, I realized that tomorrow was April Fool's Day. This all came about by me reading Speed's "Trying to think up a good April Fool's Joke" entry in the Guestbook. I then emailed him about the idea, and he accepted it with pride.

My "joke" was to inform people by way of the Records that I was going to be turning the Page completely over to Speed because of my lack of time to run it. In truth, the amount of time I have to run it has been on the rise lately and will explode into things you could never imagine beyond May. (Be prepared for The Mega Man Jukebox 6!) I then, at 11:59:57 p.m., uploaded the new homepage.html file. In it, the browser was instructed to show nothing but the title "The Speed Homepage," then move immediatly to The Speed Homepage. The Protoman Homepage was, at least in Fanatasy Land and Land of the Suckers, totally replaced and taken over by Speed. I wonder how many people burst out laughing...somehow, I get the feeling I could count them using one hand, or perchance, two fingers......one for me, and one for Speed.

The real goal of the operation was to publisize the Speed Homepage, and at that it succeeded terrificly. I will never use this method of publicity again, now that I know how annoying it can be, if only for a day.
