If you go back in time with the purpose of changing somthing you would have never had a reason to go back in time to begin with because you changed it. Thus you would have never gone back in time to begin with and time will reset to the way it was, but in this reality you will go back in time, and so you would have doomed us all to loop around in time, until the law of averages makes something change.

That's my point! Except, you could make it so that your past self comes to the past again regardless, thus preventing the fallout of a paradox.
