Of course he was! The original four racers were Captain Falcon in the Blue Falcon, Samurai Goroh in the Fire Stingray, Dr. Robert Stewart in the Golden Fox, and Pico in the Wild Goose. And of course those other machines that didn't have actual people in them, and were only there to get in your way as you laped them.

Probably. Or the fact that I played F-Zero GX long before I even found a ROM of F-ZERO, so I already knew the racers and their machines.
