Yeah, but that's all the same. Look at cartoons. Look at the Simpsons, at Rugrats, Rocko's Modern Life, Dexter's Lab, Doodlez, they all look different, and they all look great.
That is really a matter of different viewpoints and stetic sense Lazlo
I surely like Simpsoms they way they are, but for most of others, I would prefer then redisigned, specially rugrats, dunno why but those rdistorted line arts makes me feel bad, so I avoid it O.O
Also some of the coartoons Ive mentioned had a cool design like Silver Hawns, but I can picture then in my head being yet better
Also to note: anime has got quite a lot of diversity, just pick things from diferent authors
There are FAR more differences between Gundam Wing and Pokemon character design than between Batman and X-Men
Dunno if you see my point, but depending on which things you compare, the results are different for both anime and cartoon
But there is one thing one cant denny and this fanart shows it perfectly: When it comes to machines, anime owns everything! Just notice that any mecha series that comes from the occident (not just USA) is based off, ripped off or adapted from japanese stuff or yet had japanese guys in the team
(Loot at battletech and Transformers).
And lastly, ocidental guys are going towards japanese style, even Marvel is messing with manga
Yet I think that there will always remain the cartoon stuff because of different stetic senses and viewpoints =^.^=
