So my parents told me they'd get me a blade for Christmas, I just had to tell them what I wanted, and so long as it wasn't too expensive, that I'd get it. What kind of sword should I get?
-
A "I'm gonna fucking kill you" Sword.
-
Do not get something that you saw in a movie, or video game. It makes you look stupid and impressionable.
Do not get one that isn't battle ready, because if you ever decide/need to use it, you will look like a fool. Get a nice practical blade. If you can, try Badger Blades. I would say go to Highland Steel, but they're dead now.
-
I agree with the not from a video game or movie thing.
But I find a good, ol' long sword or short sword or bastard sword, just something plain that's fun to use is good. But that's me.
-
I got a katana. Its nice. It is well balanced, and is made out of pretty good materials. Only problem: it has a zinc alloy blade, and can never be sharpened....ever.
-
Hope it's not real! Otherwise, we'd have more murderers in this forum, like Lazlo!
-
Get a double edged european Sword
-
or a claymore! ha!
Them things are damn heavy, though....
-
Oh Oh! if possible A Basterd Sword! those are great swords man! Great balance length, and speed!
-
Claymores are not always heavy. Depends on how they are made.
-
They looked pretty darn big on Castlevania Symphony of the Night

I'd get a muramasa! XP
-
I have a 36" half-tang steel blade, basicall sharpened to the max. Unfortunatly I don't know what make it is
-
I'd get a Soul Edge.
MWHAHAHAH MASSACRE
-
If I were you, I'd aim for a Kotetsu or a Wakizashi. Very useful katanas.
If you're looking for something less japanese...
A rapier, or a zweihander if you want something so big it can split a tree trunk.
-
You shouldn't cut trees with swords. But I wouldn't expect you to know that.
-
I know quite a bit all forms of medieval weaponry.
While a normal sword shouldn't...with a zweihander it doesn't matter. the zweihanders weren't users because they were sharp. They were used because their sheer mass could split someone in two like a wedge, regardless of sharpness. The fear of a zweihander came not from dying by it, but from slowly dying in a most painful fashion.
-
get a switch blade *pets hers*
-
chainsaw > sword
-
chainsaw > sword
Quoted for truth.
But seriously, Katana. No question. Battle-ready. And NOTHING from the flea markets! They suck!

That's dumb. Most katanas nowadays aren't battle-ready.
Anyway, I've reffered him to some sites (http://www.museumreplicas.com) which have some battle ready blades (as well as some not-so-battle ready), so we'll see what he comes up with.
-
I'll say the same thing I said on random insanity, screw katanas they suck, get yourself a european blade like a bastard, long sword, or claymore. Also try to get a spanish sword they look good.
-
listen jv2k katanas are world know for the perfection. And in fact conserderd the best swords in the world ever maid PERIOD.
-
You and your racist crap.
-
who the heck r u calling racist???
-
Anyone who shares the stupid idea that Japanese society and everything that comes from Japan is superior to everything else in the world.
-
Lazlo, I'm not saying that, so don't put words into my mouth. All I am saying is that katanas are perfectly balanced (literally), and they are the sharpest things on the market.
And for your information, my uncle has a katana that was forged in the traditional style. It IS battle-ready, and would slice almost ANYTHING in half. He acknowledges it's superiority, and he celtic!
-

That is stupid. Just because something is a katana does not mean it is perfectly balanced, or at all sharp.

Hey, I speak from personal experience, here. I see your point, but we're just gonna have to agree to disagree.
-
No, we'll agree that if made properly, a katana can be perfectly balanced and extremely sharp, however, the same can be said with any type of sword.
-

Yes they are considered the best by japanophiles who don't realize that people in other culters didn't make good swords. All katanas have over any other sword is they are sharp, and that comes at the price of a really thin chipable edge. Besides that a good european sword is alot lighter on the pocket, plus they take up more space on your wall.
-
This is one thing that's always confused me... people i know over 'tinternet talk about how they make chainmail and buy various sharp medieval weaponry and all that sort of thing, but it's never made sense to me. I've never found myself wanting to own swords and knives let alone guns, and so it slightly unnerves me when i hear people talk enthusiastically about their collection of shiny steel and other stuff. Perhaps it's an american thing which doesn't translate over to england, or perhaps it's me... i just know that i never catch my friends (or anyone i know) talking about swords they own or plan to buy...
-
I agree with Lazlo on this and swift get a CLAYMORE or even better a switch blade >.> <,<
-
I'll get a Katana so I can slash NMX into pieces! Nah, just kidding.

I WAS JUST JOKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Geez..... wat do I got to do to get a sense of humor around here...? :x

Doubt, I can explain.
Gun collections are often times used for hunting, and when one buys a gun its usually for protections. Things like medieval weapons have no such purpose, after all in this modern erra such weapons and armor are impractical. Swords just look cool, plus they harken back to a time when people had to have skill to kill each other. Not just pull a trigger or push a button from 1000 miles away. But mostly because they are damn cool.
