The TPH Team

Clockwise from right are Nate (Protoman), Rob (OverWing), and Rachel (Rachey).

Protoman created The Protoman Homepage in July of 1996. Since then he has seen it grow from one page residing in a 1MB ISP personal directory to a multigig monstrosity housed on its own server (more on that below). Nate runs the Music and Cartoons sections.

OverWing became a TPH Team member on September 10, 2000. He draws Comix based on TPH's IRC channel, #phc. OverWing runs the Comix section.

Rachey became a TPH Team member on January 4, 2000. She designed the last three TPH layouts and generally keeps Protoman from making everything look like his bathroom (yikes!).

Let's play 'Where's TPH Server!'

TPH Server

TPH comes to you from a 1.3 GHz Intel Celeron box with 512 MB of memory and a 60 GB, 7200 RPM hard disk. The server is hosted by RackShack and runs Red Hat Linux. I use Apache for serving the Web pages, proftpd for an FTP server and the open source Darwin Streaming Server to stream the Cartoons in MPEG4 format.

Previous Servers included a Power Mac G3, a heavily upgraded Power Mac 9500 and a grape iMac.

The Protoman Homepage's official IRC channel is on EsperNet and is called #phc, which stands (most of the time) for "Protoman Homepage Chat."

To use IRC, you should download an IRC client. Such a client can be downloaded at the mIRC (Windows), ircle (Mac), or Snak (Mac) websites.

Once you've downloaded a client, connect to EsperNet by typing /server irc.esper.net. Once connected, type /join #phc to join us. (You can also try joining automatically.) See you there!

The Very Best Of...

TPH History

The site has featured several different navigation schemes since its launch in 1996. Especially of note are the Green Frameset from 1998, the JavaScript Pulldown from 2000, the Original Button Bar from 2001, and the Patriotic Updated Button Bar from 2002. The former two layouts were designed by Nate, and the latter two were designed by Rachey.

Of course, many variations of the above were used, including a version of the 1998 layout used throughout 1997 with the index frame on the left, as well as a 1999 version of the JavaScript Pulldown with the green background instead of the blue.
